JONNY QUEST'S OWN SUPERB ARTIST DOUG WILDEY !!!

Illustrious Doug Wildey illustrated comic books for Marvel, DC, Gold Key, Dell, Atlas, Red Circle, Eclipse, Comico and Harvey Comics.

Early in his career he drew primarily westerns, not surprising with his fantastic Rio series. In the sixties, he worked on The Saint & Steve Canyon comic strips.

Doug was most famous for Jonny Quest & Rio. Although he also drew Tarzan, Korak & Tiger-Boy

For Gold Key, Wildey worked on Tarzan, Korak & Jonny Quest, need I say more.

At Harvey, Doug drew for Double Dare Adventures, Thrill-O-Rama & Unearthly Spectactulars, a couple of Tiger-Boy stories. Loved those Harvey Thriller days.

Wildey carried on with Jonny Quest with Comico, even coming out with three classic cartoon episodes adapted for the comics. One of those, was the story of Hadji joining the Quests.

Rio also came out during Doug's time at Comico in a beautiful western, graphic novel.

Wildey not only worked in comics, but cartoon illustration as well. It was there he developed Jonny Quest. I love him for that. Jonny Quest is one of my favorite cartoons. In addition to Jonny Quest, WIldey went on to work on Herculoids, Chuck Norris & Jana of the Jungle.

My childhood was happier for Doug Wildey & I'll always much appreciate him for that.

BOB POWELL - COMIC BOOK ARTIST OF MANY HATS !!!

Bob Powell primarily worked for Marvel, Harvey & Red Circle Comics in the Silver Age. He drew a lot of war, horror & super-hero comic books along with penciling (over the rough pencils of Wally Wood) the original Mars Attacks trading cards.

A favorite of mine was Bob's work in Shocking Tales Digest #1 featuring some Man in Black tales. A gem of a digest also featuring Jack Kirby & Joe Simon as well. Love it! A prize in my personal collection.

With Marvel, Powell worked on a certain blind super-hero named - Daredevil, Man with No Fear #9-#11, #81 (Torch & Thing back-up story) & Annual #2. Additionally, he drew a quirky Human Torch & Thing story in Strange Tales #130.

At Harvey, Bob drew Man in Black featured in Thrill-O-Rama #1 & Glowing Gladiator (designed by Jim Steranko!) in Double-Dare #1

For Red Circle, Powell illustrated the Fly in Adventures of the The Fly #24 & Blue Ribbon #10

Eclipse presented Bob Powell's Timeless Tales  #1 reprinting three Golden Age stories from Black Cat. AC Comics has also reprinted a lot of his Cave Girl stories.

Although the largest body of Bob Powell's work was in the Golden Age, I believe he made a big mark in the Silver Age as well.

FUN AND DYNAMIC COMIC BOOK ARTIST JOE STATON !!!

I remember Joe Staton most for his E-Man, Six Million Dollar Man, Green Lantern & Huntress comic books!

Joe worked a lot for Charlton, Marvel, DC, First, Comico, Warren, Digital Webbing and Renegade Comics.

At Charlton, Joe began his illustrious career with E-Man, one of his premiere super-hero character. E-Man spanned a incredible number of comic book companies.

Staton also drew the Six Million Dollar Man #1 & Space: 1999 #1. Those two were terrific comic books (don't forget, Charlton also put out terrific magazines on these two as well, Yes!) based on the TV shows. Another TV series he illustrated for the comics was Primus, from Ivan Tors who produced Around the World Under the Sea, a favorite movie of mine.

Initially hired by Marvel, Joe illustrated The Avengers #127, The Incredible Hulk #200 & Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #28.

Staton was brought in by DC to work on Justice Society of America (in All-Star Comics), he went on to illustrate Green Lantern #117, Guy Gardner #1, Wonder Woman, Huntress #1 (in DC Super-Stars #17) & Power Girl (my favorite in Showcase #97.)

Joe went on to work for First comics as Art Director. There, he continued the E-Man #1 & Mike Mauser (in The P.I.s #1) comics, along with Howard Chaykin's American Flagg #28.

Staton illustrated Charles Santino's ambitious graphic novel adaptation of Ayn Rand's epic novel Anthem.

Joe Status is reserved a special place in my heart for his dynamic, yet fun style of artwork. He has a fantastic web site @ joestaton.com
